What Is Infertility Awareness Week?
Understanding NIAW, CIAW, and How to Get Involved
Infertility impacts 1 in 6 and is more common than many realize. That’s why Infertility Awareness Week exists: to break the silence, challenge the stigma, and create space for real conversations around reproductive health.
In both the United States and Canada, Infertility Awareness Week is a powerful time to elevate voices, educate the public, and stand with the millions impacted by infertility and family-building challenges.
Here’s what you need to know about NIAW, CIAW, and how to get involved—whether you’re in the thick of it, or want to be a better ally.
What Is NIAW (National Infertility Awareness Week)?
National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW) takes place each year in the United States during the last full week of April. In 2025, NIAW runs from April 20–26th, 2025.
Started by RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, NIAW is a time to:
Raise awareness of infertility and its impact
Educate about available treatments and support options
Advocate for better access to reproductive healthcare and insurance coverage
Amplify the voices of those who’ve experienced infertility firsthand
The week is anchored by bold storytelling, powerful campaigns, events, and collective action. You’ll see the hashtags #NIAW2025 and #InfertilityAwareness across social platforms.
What Is CIAW (Canadian Infertility Awareness Week)?
Canadian Infertility Awareness Week (CIAW) is held annually during the last full week of April and led by Fertility Matters Canada. In 2025, CIAW will be observed from April 20–26th, 2025, aligning with NIAW.
CIAW sheds light on the unique barriers Canadians face, including:
Limited provincial funding for fertility treatments
Long wait times and access issues
Lack of inclusive support for LGBTQIA+ and single-parent family building
Advocating for fertility benefits at work and demanding for better care
The message? Infertility is a medical issue—not a luxury. Let’s get loud by sharing our stories. Infertility deserves national attention, compassion, and policy change.
Watch for #CFAW2025 and #FertilityUnfiltered during the week to join the conversation.
Why Infertility Awareness Matters
Infertility affects 1 in 6 people globally. Yet despite how widespread it is, the emotional, physical, and financial toll it takes is often minimized—or entirely misunderstood. For many, it’s a deeply isolating journey filled with uncertainty, grief, and frustration. And too often, those impacted are left to navigate it in silence.
That’s why Infertility Awareness Week is so important. It’s not just about facts or statistics—it’s about being seen. It’s about validation, visibility, and holding space for the messy, complicated reality of fertility struggles. It’s a reminder that no one is broken for having a hard time. No one is alone in their pain. And everyone’s story deserves to be acknowledged.
Infertility Awareness Week invites us to listen more deeply, support more intentionally, and push for change in how we approach reproductive care around the world.
How to Get Involved
Whether you’re navigating infertility yourself or standing in support of someone who is, your voice matters. And there are powerful ways to show up:
If you're in the thick of it, know this: speaking your truth—whether in a private journal or public post—can be a healing act. Finding safe, supportive spaces like The IVF Warrior community can offer connection and validation when you need it most. Advocate for yourself by asking questions and seeking the care you deserve. And above all, protect your energy. Say no when you need to. Unfollow what hurts. Prioritize your healing over others’ expectations.
And if you’re an ally, your role is just as important. Listen without trying to fix. Use words that include, not assume. Educate yourself about IVF, miscarriage, donor conception—so your support is grounded in real understanding. Share resources or social posts (see below). Amplify the voices of those speaking up. And when possible, support the brands and organizations making fertility care more inclusive and accessible.
We all have a part to play in creating a culture where infertility is met with empathy—not silence.
