How to Practice Self-Care and Put Yourself First
Have you been struggling this year to find balance and put your wellness first?
I think it’s safe to say that many of us have been pretending to have it all together and be okay, when really we’re struggling with higher than normal stress levels, feeling extra anxious, and battling additional unknowns on top of this, whether it be job loss, health conditions, or even fear of what’s happening in the world.
Among the many demands of life, it’s common to forget about ourselves.
Learning how to practice self-care and put yourself first isn’t easy for everyone. Many feel guilt for taking much needed “me time”, have a hard time slowing down, or feel like it’s at the bottom of their long priority list. But let me tell you, you have to make time! Self-care is essential for your overall wellness. You must make time, or your body will decide for you when it’s time to slow down.
Self-care is how you take your power back. It also looks different for everyone.
Here are simple ways to practice self-care and put yourself first:
Set Boundaries: Decline events you don’t want to attend, excuse yourself from triggering situations or events, stand your ground, learn how to say no! Seriously. It sounds simple, but it takes practice. Never feel guilty for doing what’s best for you.
Treat Yourself to Things and/or Activities That Make You Feel Good: Self-care doesn’t always mean getting your nails done or having a bubble bath, it can mean doing things that make you feel good. Some people enjoy cozying up on the coach and bingeing a show, while others prefer to do something creative like journal or bake! There’s no right or wrong way to practice this but finding something that works for you is so important.
Our Top List of Activities For Those Just Getting Started:

Read a new book
Journal
Learn something new
Binge a comedy
Self-care is important. I know it’s become this ‘overly’ talked about concept, but there’s a reason behind that. You need to do it! By taking time for you, you’re showing your mind and body some much needed self-love. You’re giving yourself the opportunity to heal and renew so that you can continue to show up for yourself and others.
