“What’s your story and what made you want to freeze your eggs?”
Maira: I am an artist/dancer living in NYC. For women in my industry, it is quite common to delay motherhood until the very last moment. For me, I was never clear if I wanted to have kids, so I never stressed about it. I always said, if it’s meant to be it will be. However, something shifted in me as I was approaching the age of 35. For the first time in my life, I started to feel the pressure from my biological clock. I never thought about freezing my eggs as I wasn’t sure if I wanted to have kids. Thankfully I had a friend who just went through the process, and she suggested I do the same. I can’t express how thankful I am to her for reminding me this was an option. Obviously, nothing is certain in life, but I can’t say I didn’t try!
"What tips would you give to patients considering fertility treatments abroad?"
Maira: I would say do it in a place you absolutely love and are comfortable in. The process can be stressful so making your soul happy is important. In my case, I was living the dream, being in my favorite city, taking art classes doing what I love. That made the stressful part so much easier to deal with.
“What made Spain stand out as a destination for fertility treatment?"
Maira: Spain is my favorite country, so it was a no brainer for me, especially when I found out it’s 1/3 or the price compared to NY!
“What factors were most important to you in choosing a clinic? Why have you chosen Vida?”
Maira: After reading up a lot of reviews from different fertility centers in Madrid, I selected a few and set up a call to get a feel of the clinic. Vida fertility was the most welcoming and friendly, in the end it was an easy decision for me!
“Were there any challenges with time zones, language barriers, or international travel that you had to overcome?”
Maira: Spain is 6 hours ahead of NY but being jet lagged was not an issue at all. The only worries I had about traveling was, getting my menstruation on the clock when I arrived to Spain. Traveling can cause some delays, but I decided to not go on birth control and take the risk to do it the natural way. Thankfully I had no issues!
I speak Spanish so I had no language barrier, but I have noticed everyone spoke English at the clinic.
“What advice would you give to others considering traveling to Spain for fertility treatment?"
Maira: If you are thinking of doing it eventually, do it now. The longer you wait, the chances of getting enough healthy eggs gets slimmer. You might end up saving yourself time and money from having to do multiple rounds.
